Online Shopping Good for the Environment, UK Shoppers Say

IMRG's 2011 Consumer Delivery Survey says that most UK shoppers believed that online shopping was a lot better for the environment. The survey included 1,329 shoppers; 72.9%n last year (25% more than last year) said that they felt online shopping was a very environment friendly way of shopping as they did no burn fuel driving to the stores.

Professor Alan McKinnon who conducted the survey on online shopping conceded that online shopping was a greener alternative, but it could do more to decarbonize the distribution of online orders. The respondents, when asked if they would pay extra for greener online shopping experience, were not so enthusiastic. 64.2% were ready to shell out of bit more for a carbon-friendly delivery system, but were not ready to make major sacrifices for greener online shopping.
